Krutrim Shifts Focus to AI Cloud, Achieves Rs 300 Crore Revenue in FY26

Krutrim’s Shift to AI Cloud Services: A Revenue Surge

Krutrim’s Shift to AI Cloud Services

Krutrim, an innovative startup in artificial intelligence established by Bhavish Aggarwal, has redirected its efforts towards AI cloud services and has reported approximately Rs 300 crore in revenue for FY26, almost triple the amount of the previous year. The company has opted to move away from its previous intentions of developing its own large language models and semiconductor chips. Instead, it is concentrating on providing AI infrastructure, featuring cloud-based computing and tools tailored for businesses.

Positive Outcomes from Strategic Change

This strategic pivot appears to be effective. Krutrim announced it has reached profitability during the year and is now operating with greater capital efficiency. Additionally, the company suggested that immediate fundraising is not necessary.

Developing AI Cloud Platforms

Krutrim has successfully developed its own AI cloud platform and is actively collaborating with over 25 enterprise clients in various sectors such as mobility, fintech, and e-commerce. The rising demand for GPU-based computing has bolstered this aspect of their business.

Restructuring and Workforce Changes

The shift follows a phase of internal restructuring. Last year, the company made the decision to reduce its workforce by laying off more than 150 employees as it realigned its focus. Concurrently, Ola Electric, its parent company, secured funds for a Krutrim data centre by pledging 10.71 crore shares, equating to around 2.43% of its equity.

Addressing Consumer Challenges

Furthermore, this transition comes after facing consumer-related challenges. Earlier in the year, Krutrim’s AI assistant, Kruti, experienced downtime and was unavailable on both web and app stores. Rather than investing heavily in extensive long-term research initiatives, the company is now prioritising areas with quicker revenue generation prospects.

Future Prospects and Market Position

However, there are ongoing questions regarding the extent to which this revenue is derived from external clients. It is believed that a portion of the initial business came from within the Ola ecosystem, thus the company’s ability to expand beyond this will be crucial. Krutrim is now entering a competitive landscape where multiple startups are aiming to establish AI infrastructure in India, coinciding with a growing need for local cloud and compute solutions.
