As of January 31, owners of the electric Lucid Gravity SUV will have access to Tesla’s Supercharging network.
The Gravity represents Lucid’s second vehicle model, following the flagship Air sedan series, and is the first to feature charge ports compatible with Tesla’s NACS (North American Charging Standard) charge plugs. Lucid Air owners will also gain access to the Tesla Supercharger network in the second quarter by using adapters.
In 2023, several automakers, including Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Rivian, and Mercedes-Benz, declared intentions to develop future electric vehicle models incorporating Tesla’s charging standard, allowing drivers to connect to Tesla’s expansive charging network. Meanwhile, automotive manufacturers have been supplying EV owners with adapters, enabling those with CCS (Combined Charging Standard) ports to charge at various locations.
Tesla has been gradually allowing non-Tesla electric vehicles to utilise its charging network, adapting software for EVs and upgrading its chargers. This approach likely accounts for the interval between the initial Gravity deliveries to employees, friends, and family in early December, and the time when owners will be able to use the chargers.
The luxury electric vehicle manufacturer also announced that it will provide adapters for Gravity owners, allowing them to access charging stations equipped with CCS plugs.
Emad Dlala, the Vice President of Powertrain at Lucid, stated that the automaker developed an advanced high-performance 926V powertrain, enabling the Gravity to charge at speeds of up to 400 kW on 1000V charging systems. This powertrain incorporates a sophisticated cooling system that offers enhanced thermal capacity.
