Agrani Labs: Pioneering AI Semiconductor Innovations

Bengaluru’s Agrani Labs, an AI semiconductor startup, has emerged from stealth mode with an impressive funding round. The company, founded by former executives from Intel and AMD, secured $8 million in seed funding, primarily led by Peak XV Partners, along with contributions from various angel investors. These funds are allocated for enhancing engineering capabilities and advancing product development as Agrani Labs aims to create internationally competitive AI compute solutions from India.

Focus on High-Performance AI GPUs

Established by Dheemanth Nagaraj, Ashok Jagannathan, Srikanth Nimmagadda, and Rajesh Vivekanandham, Agrani Labs is dedicated to developing a high-performance AI GPU specifically tailored for data centres. This venture enters a market characterised by rapid growth, bolstered by an increasing need for AI compute infrastructure, yet still led by a handful of global players.

A Comprehensive AI Compute Platform

Agrani Labs is designing a complete AI compute platform that includes both hardware and software components. In addition to GPU design, the startup is creating its proprietary software stack, which incorporates compilers, libraries, system software, and AI frameworks.

Expertise with Visionary Guidance

To strengthen its initiatives, Agrani Labs has welcomed Vinod Dham, often referred to as the “Father of the Pentium,” as a founding advisor. Dham has formerly made significant contributions to Intel’s processor roadmap and is well-regarded within the Indian semiconductor ecosystem.

Advancements and Collaborations

The startup has already made significant strides in defining its architecture and products, successfully developing early iterations of its hardware and software stacks. Furthermore, Agrani Labs is collaborating with academic institutions, semiconductor partners, government research entities, and software communities to hasten its development efforts.
