Amazon Prime Video Introduces Limited Advertisements in India
Amazon Prime Video is set to launch limited advertisements within its movies and TV shows in India starting from June 17, 2025. This initiative is designed to bolster ongoing investments in content development and growth. Notably, the existing Prime membership fee of Rs 1,499 per year will not change.
For those members who value a viewing experience free from interruptions, Amazon will provide an ad-free add-on option priced at Rs 699 per year or Rs 129 per month, available from the same date.
This change is part of Amazon’s global plan to introduce ads to Prime Video, which began in early 2024 in markets including the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Canada. The initiative is now set to expand to additional countries such as Brazil, Japan, and the Netherlands in 2025.
Since its launch in December 2016, Prime Video has played a pivotal role in Amazon’s services in India, offering an extensive library of both Indian and international content, including original series and films.
The decision to incorporate ads corresponds with Amazon’s wider strategy to enhance live sports content, presenting unique real-time viewing and advertising opportunities. Amazon invests approximately $3 billion each year in broadcasting rights for prominent leagues such as the NBA and NFL.
