Arunish Chawla Assumes Role as Secretary of the Department of Revenue
On Thursday, senior bureaucrat Arunish Chawla officially took over the position of Secretary for the Department of Revenue. Chawla, an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) from the Bihar cadre and part of the 1992 batch, was previously serving as Secretary in the Department of Pharmaceuticals within the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers since 1st November 2023.
His appointment as the Revenue Secretary was announced on Wednesday by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

Chawla holds a doctorate in Economics from the prestigious London School of Economics. His extensive career includes:
- Managing Director of the Metro Rail Project in Patna
- Senior Economist for the International Monetary Fund while on a foreign assignment through the Department of Economic Affairs
- Minister (Economic) at the Embassy of India in Washington DC
- Joint Secretary in the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance
