A Junior VC: Pre-Seed Venture Capital Fund Surpasses Rs 200 Crore

A Junior VC, founded by Aviral Bhatnagar, has successfully closed its inaugural fund with commitments exceeding Rs 200 crore, more than double its initial target of Rs 100 crore. Earlier in March, the firm secured its first Rs 100 crore fund specifically designed to assist startups at the pre-seed stage in India.

Background of A Junior VC

Bhatnagar, who previously worked as an investor at the early-stage investment company Venture Highway, departed from the fund just before its acquisition by General Catalyst, a Silicon Valley firm, in June 2024. Over the past year, A Junior VC has established itself as one of the most active pre-seed investors, having assessed over 11,000 applications from founders and supported 25 startups thus far. The fund aims to back an additional 60-70 startups in the fields of AI and consumer technology in the upcoming years.

Investment Reach and Strategy

The pool of applicants has extended across more than 50 cities, incorporating 6,000 colleges and 4,000 companies. Bhatnagar expressed gratitude towards their Limited Partners, noting that while the fund was significantly oversubscribed, they opted for a disciplined approach, closing at nearly Rs 165 crore. He highlighted that India is experiencing an unparalleled surge of first-time entrepreneurs, and that meeting their ambitious goals necessitates venture capital operating at a new speed.

Support Beyond Capital

A Junior VC provides more than just funding; it offers founders access to a robust network of 600,000 connections, structured resources valued at Rs 4 crore, and community-oriented programs designed to enhance customer acquisition and peer support.

Recent Investments

The firm’s recent investments encompass Nuyug, a jewellery brand specialising in celebration-wear, and Mithila Foods, an FMCG company focused on food products from Bihar.
