Better Nutrition: Biofortified Food Brand Secures Rs 10 Crore in Seed Funding
Better Nutrition, a brand focused on biofortified food, has successfully raised Rs 10 crore in seed funding. This investment came from various family offices, high-net-worth individuals (HNIs), and notable angel investors including Namita Thapar, Shantanu Deshpande, PV Sindhu, Aclr8.vc, Apurva Chamaria, Karan Jindal, and Akshay Ghulati. Approximately 30% of this funding was reaffirmed by early investors, demonstrating strong ongoing support.
Greenday, the parent company of Better Nutrition, previously raised Rs 3.1 crore in 2022, with the funding round being led by IIM Ahmedabad Ventures.
The newly acquired funds will be allocated to broaden product categories in biofortified food, enhance distribution in quick commerce, offline retail, and direct-to-consumer (D2C) channels, expand training programs for farmers, and boost sustainable sourcing initiatives. Better Nutrition will also invest in research and development, as stated in a recent press release.
Mission of Better Nutrition
Founded in 2023 by Prateek Rastogi and Aishwarya Bhatnagar, Better Nutrition aims to tackle the nutritional issues facing the nation by providing biofortified grains that are rich in essential nutrients including zinc, iron, protein, and calcium. The brand produces various products such as wheat flour, rice, daliya, and an assortment of nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables like pomegranates and cauliflower, all fortified with vital vitamins and minerals.
Community Collaboration and Sustainability
Based in Lucknow, the company partners with over 15,000 farmers and works towards creating a robust network of rural micro-entrepreneurs. The goal is to make nutrient-rich grains accessible to every household in India, improving energy, boosting immunity, and promoting overall health without requiring drastic dietary changes. Better Nutrition plans to extend its product line to include pulses, oilseeds, and other foundational crops. The forthcoming products will be derived from its own crops, ensuring they maintain their nutrient density, low-GI profile, and pesticide-free integrity.
Growth and Recognition
Better Nutrition reports a threefold increase in both revenue and valuation. The company gained notable visibility after appearing on Shark Tank India, leading to a fivefold revenue increase, a tenfold rise in website traffic, fulfilling over 25,000 orders, and expanding its presence across major quick commerce platforms like Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, and BigBasket.
PV Sindhu also collaborates with various brands, including Spinny, Bank of Baroda, Asian Paints, and Bridgestone India.
