Makr Microsystems Secures Funding for Semiconductor Metrology Technology

Bengaluru-based semiconductor metrology startup Makr Microsystems has successfully raised Rs 10.2 crore in a seed funding round led by the frontier-tech venture capital firm Bluehill VC, along with contributions from Artha Venture Fund. Founded by Ashwin Lal, Makr is pioneering advanced nanoscale 3D subsurface metrology technology that enables chip manufacturers to detect and evaluate concealed structures and flaws beneath semiconductor surfaces without causing any damage to the chips.

Makr’s innovative technology integrates Acoustic Atomic Force Microscopy (AAFM), optical tomography, and 3D data analytics. The funds garnered will be directed towards further technology development, validating customer needs, and commercialising their offerings. Initial applications of this technology cover areas such as advanced packaging, hybrid bonding, buried interfaces, chiplet interconnects, and defect detection.

According to Bluehill VC, Makr aligns perfectly with their commitment to investing in deep-tech companies that tackle challenging issues within crucial technology sectors. The fund has recently completed its inaugural fund, which amounted to Rs 400 crore. Makr aims to create semiconductor equipment and technology that can compete on a global scale, as chip architectures grow increasingly complex and manufacturing processes transition into three-dimensional constructs.
