Boba Bhai: Rapid Revenue Growth and Challenges Ahead

Boba Bhai, a tea and beverage chain based in Bengaluru, has witnessed its revenue soar dramatically in the fiscal year concluding in March 2026. However, this impressive growth comes with increased losses as the Titan Capital-backed company has been expanding significantly and launching numerous new outlets.

Financial Performance Overview

Boba Bhai’s operational revenue surged by 139%, reaching Rs 68 crore in FY26 compared to Rs 28.44 crore in FY25, as indicated by financial documentation reviewed by Startup Superb. The primary revenue source, food and beverage sales, climbed 137.1% to Rs 67.26 crore in FY26, constituting 99% of total operational revenue. Additionally, revenue from scrap sales rose to Rs 28 lakh, up from Rs 7 lakh in the last fiscal year.

Total Income and Other Gains

Moreover, the company recorded Rs 1 crore in additional income, resulting in total income of Rs 69 crore in FY26, a significant increase from Rs 29.44 crore in FY25.

Expenditure Breakdown

Turning to expenses, Boba Bhai witnessed a 138.5% hike in its main expenditure category, the cost of materials consumed, amounting to Rs 25 crore in FY26. Employee benefit expenses rose sharply by 210.3% to Rs 13.5 crore. There was also a notable increase in advertising and promotional costs, which jumped 139.9% to Rs 13 crore, while commission expenses escalated by 155.9% to reach Rs 11.44 crore. Other expenses, making up 35% of the total outgoings, grew by 120.3% to Rs 31.46 crore in FY26.

Overall Financial Overview

Ultimately, Boba Bhai’s total expenses experienced a 2.3-fold increase, climbing to Rs 90.4 crore in FY26 from Rs 39 crore in the prior fiscal year. The company reported 188 employees by the end of March 2026.

Challenges Ahead

Despite the remarkable growth in operational revenue, Boba Bhai’s losses widened by 2.2 times to Rs 21.8 crore in FY26 from Rs 9.96 crore in FY25. Nonetheless, there was a slight improvement in operating efficiency, with expenses for every rupee of operational revenue dropping to Rs 1.33 from Rs 1.37 in the previous year.

Performance Metrics

The EBITDA margin also improved, moving to -30.35% from -34.67%, whereas ROCE declined to -41.12% from -32.47%. At the same time, cash and bank reserves plummeted to Rs 2.85 crore from Rs 24.07 crore.

Future Expansion Plans

Boba Bhai successfully raised Rs 40 crore in March 2026 to further its store expansion. The company currently operates around 100 outlets across eight cities and plans to grow into 10 cities in FY27, with an additional 150-200 stores expected to open by the fiscal year’s end. The upcoming phase will challenge whether this continued expansion can yield improved unit economics. With rising costs associated with employees, marketing, and materials, Boba Bhai needs to enhance store-level profitability and cash flow as it grows.
