Cosmochute Secures Funding for Space Robotics Development

Cosmochute has successfully raised $1.5 million in a pre-seed funding round, primarily led by Accel and Prosus Ventures through the Atoms X programme. The round also saw contributions from IIMA Ventures’ Deep-tech and Aerospace Acceleration Fund, Operators Studio, and Chinmayi Muthyala. As one of seven startups selected for the inaugural Atoms X cohort, which began earlier this year, Cosmochute has plans for significant advancements.

Funding Utilisation and Growth Plans

Cosmochute intends to utilise the funding for product development, expanding its engineering team, and establishing a clear commercial roadmap, as the company strategically prepares for its upcoming growth phase, as stated in their press release.

Introduction to Cosmochute

Founded in 2023 by Janhavi Gore, Amit Chowdhary, and Dhruv Alok Sangal, Cosmochute is focused on creating space robotics infrastructure tailored for the burgeoning lunar economy. Its inaugural programme, LEAP, represents a modular platform engineered to facilitate the transportation and deployment of payloads on the Moon.

Details of the LEAP Programme

LEAP combines a modular rover and trailer, equipped with standard payload bays, which enables the integration of multiple payloads into one unified mission architecture. The objective is to streamline the cost and complexity associated with delivering equipment and payloads to the Moon’s surface through a standardised method of lunar transportation and payload deployment.

Standardising Lunar Operations

The design of the platform aims to minimise the need for mission-specific engineering, thereby enhancing the repeatability of lunar transportation and payload deployment operations.

Setting Up Lunar Laboratories

Cosmochute is currently establishing its lunar laboratories at the incubation facility of IIMA Ventures. The startup actively engages with India’s space technology ecosystem, which encompasses various companies, investors, and institutions that foster private participation in the space sector.

Future Aspirations of Cosmochute

With LEAP as its foundational platform, Cosmochute is set to evolve its capabilities in lunar mobility and space robotics, with potential applications extending to other scenarios in space as well as terrestrial contexts. The company aims to construct the infrastructure necessary to support both commercial and scientific missions to the Moon.
