EtherealX: Innovative Space Technology Startup Raises $20.5 Million in Funding
Space technology company Ethereal Exploration Guild, known as EtherealX, has successfully secured $20.5 million in its Series A funding round. This round was co-led by TDK Ventures and BIG Capital, with additional backing from prominent investors such as Accel, Prosus, YourNest Venture Capital, BlueHill Capital, Campus Fund, and Riceberg Ventures.
Previous Funding Efforts
The startup previously raised $5 million in a seed round led by YourNest, with support from BIG Global Investments JSC, BlueHill Capital, Campus Fund, and Golden Sparrow Ventures, along with contributions from Karan Bhagat, Yatin Shah from IIFL Wealth, Kiran Shetty, and Akhilesh Agarwal back in August 2024.
Utilization of Funds
According to a press release from Ethereal Exploration Guild, the funds from the latest round will be directed towards the development of the Razor Crest Mk-1, a fully reusable medium-lift launch vehicle.
About EtherealX
EtherealX was co-founded in 2022 by Manu J. Nair, Shubhayu Sardar, and Prashanth Sharma. The company aims to compete with SpaceX by introducing the Razor Crest Mk-1, designed to place up to eight tonnes into low Earth orbit. The launch vehicle will also be capable of delivering payloads to geostationary transfer and trans-lunar injection orbits.
Development Progress
The Bengaluru-based startup is currently working on a fully reusable medium-lift launch vehicle with a capacity of 25 tonnes. They have already constructed two engines that will drive the vehicle’s two stages within just 3.5 years, thus enhancing launch efficiency and reducing overall costs.
Specifications of Razor Crest Mk-1
The Razor Crest Mk-1 is a promising medium-lift fully reusable launch vehicle capable of carrying up to 24.8 tonnes into Lower Earth Orbit (LEO) and up to 10.8 tonnes into the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).
Aspiring to Transform the Market
EtherealX aims to revolutionise the launch market by minimising orbital transportation costs to a target range of $500-1,000 per kilogram. They are developing a reusable upper-stage that employs a proprietary rocket engine feed cycle named the Full Flow Segregated Cooling Cycle (FFSCC). Thanks to in-house simulation tools and test infrastructures, the company is achieving better vehicle reusability and shorter development timelines.
Market Potential
Market research indicates that the global space economy is on track for rapid growth over the coming decade, projected to reach $1.8 trillion by 2035.
Strategic Collaborations
The company asserts that it has manufactured its 80kN upper-stage reusable engine, known as Pegasus. Furthermore, EtherealX has entered into collaboration agreements with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe), ISRO, and various other national space agencies, as well as commercial satellite operators, launch aggregators, and launch ports around the globe.
