Hycosys Raises Over $1 Million for Micro Gas Turbine Development

Hycosys has successfully secured more than $1 million (around Rs 9 crore) in a seed funding round, spearheaded by MountTech Growth Fund – Kavachh. This Bengaluru-based deep-tech engineering startup previously amassed $88.4K in a pre-seed funding round from PointOne Capital in December 2024. The newly acquired funds are intended for bolstering the engineering team, enhancing access to advanced testing facilities, and developing a micro gas turbine (MGT) system aimed at showcasing a clean energy solution as an alternative to diesel-powered generators by mid-2027, according to a press release from Hycosys.

About Hycosys

Founded in 2024 by Tapish Agarwal and Ugandhar Reddy, Hycosys is dedicated to creating fuel-flexible, low-emission micro gas turbine systems developed from foundational principles. The startup receives backing from various government initiatives, venture capital, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes, all aimed at advancing hydrogen-ready and clean fuel-flexible micro gas turbines intended for distributed clean power, mobility, and aerospace uses.

Current Industry Landscape

According to industry analyses, India has over 227 GW of installed diesel generator capacity, mainly serving industrial backup and captive power needs. In response, Hycosys intends to diversify its offerings by integrating the micro gas turbine with microgrids, heavy commercial vehicle range extenders, and advanced propulsion systems targeted for use in large fixed-wing drones and aircraft.

Innovations and Technology

Hycosys’ technological advancements include a hydrogen-optimised combustor, a 3D-printed heat recovery unit, and an innovative turbine design, presently undergoing testing at IIT-BHU. This cutting-edge approach significantly boosts efficiency while reducing the weight of the micro gas turbine by up to 30% compared to current systems.

Future Goals

The startup is focused on creating scalable, homegrown turbine technologies that align with India’s overarching decarbonisation and emission reduction objectives. These goals include achieving 50% of total energy needs from non-fossil sources by the year 2030.
