InspeCity Secures $5.6 Million Seed Funding for Space Technology Innovations
InspeCity, a pioneering spacetech startup, has successfully secured $5.6 million (approximately Rs 46 crore) in its Seed funding round, spearheaded by investor Ashish Kacholia. Additional contributions came from Speciale Invest, Shastra VC, Antler India, DeVC, MGF-Kavachh, and Anicut Capital.
Earlier in April 2023, the Mumbai-based company had obtained $1.5 million during a pre-seed funding round, which was also primarily backed by Speciale Invest and other investors.
Innovative Solutions by InspeCity
Founded by Arindrajit Chowdhury, an esteemed professor at IIT Bombay, InspeCity is focused on pioneering in-space servicing, assembly, and manufacturing (ISAM) solutions. Their core areas include satellite life-extension, propulsion systems, and rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking (RPOD) technologies.
Funding Utilisation for Research and Development
The funds raised will aid the ongoing research and development efforts and assist in scaling the company’s comprehensive life-extension platform, known as VEDA (Vehicle for Life Extension and De-orbiting Activities). A demo mission for VEDA is anticipated to take place in 2027.
Strategic Partnerships and Market Outlook
InspeCity aims to provide cost-effective alternatives to its global competitors. Additionally, the startup has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan’s Orbital Lasers to investigate laser-based solutions for space debris removal. While the primary markets remain in the US and Europe, InspeCity identifies promising opportunities in Southeast Asia and West Asia.
With ambitions to penetrate the $14 billion ISAM market, InspeCity is poised for notable growth by 2030.
