Junio Payments: A New Era in Digital Financial Solutions for Youth
Junio Payments, a branch of FirstPay Technologies, has obtained in-principle authorisation from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to launch Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs). This development signifies a pivotal moment in Junio Payments’ mission to broaden access to safe and inventive digital financial options, specifically designed for teenagers and young adults.
With this new authorisation, Junio is set to unveil a digital Wallet connected to UPI, enabling users to scan UPI QR codes and conduct transactions without needing a bank account. This feature is closely aligned with the UPI Circle initiative introduced by NPCI, which empowers young individuals to make UPI payments through their parents’ linked UPI accounts.
Founded by Ankit Gera and Shankar Nath, Junio has taken the lead in developing a distinctive digital ecosystem specifically for younger audiences. The Junio app, paired with its RuPay co-branded physical and virtual prepaid cards, enables parents to transfer funds, impose spending limits, assign tasks or allowances, and oversee financial activity in real time.
According to Ankit Gera, co-founder of Junio Payments, the prepaid wallet has become more robust as it can now facilitate UPI payments. Gera highlighted that their focus is on innovation that combines freedom with guidance, ensuring that each digital transaction is a move towards independence, financial literacy, and trust.
The Junio app, which is relied upon by over 2 million students and young professionals, fosters a secure, cashless, and educational payment landscape for India’s tech-savvy youth. It supports various payment methods including online and offline purchases, tap & pay, and NCMC-enabled transit transactions.
