Karnataka’s Ongoing Ban on Ola, Uber, and Rapido Bike Taxis

Suspension of Bike Taxi Services Upheld by Karnataka High Court

The Karnataka High Court has reinforced its previous ruling to suspend bike taxi services across the state, rejecting appeals made by aggregators including Ola, Uber, and Rapido.

This court’s decision to deny interim relief indicates that the suspension order will remain in force until at least June 24, 2025. The situation follows a ruling made on April 2, which halted bike taxi services due to the absence of official regulations under the Motor Vehicles Act. Currently, the state government has shown no intent to introduce these necessary regulations.

Furthermore, the high court has extended the suspension of bike taxi operations for an additional four weeks starting from May 14, modifying the previous order. Consequently, the suspension now extends until Sunday, June 15, 2025.

As a result, bike taxi services are expected to come to a halt across the state beginning Monday, June 16, 2025. This action has considerable repercussions for commuters and the industry, significantly impacting drivers who depend on these services for their livelihoods.

The court has scheduled additional hearings for June 24 to explore the matter further.
