Mumbai’s own beverage startup Kathy’s Beverages, known for its bubble tea brand Bobakat, has successfully raised Rs 6 crore in a pre-Series A funding round. The funds will be directed towards product innovation, expanding the team, enhancing marketing efforts, and broadening their offline presence throughout India. Bobakat is currently operating compact-format outlets in various food courts and on bustling high streets.

Founded in 2024 by Dr Rupali Ambegaonkar and Sannjeev Rao, Bobakat caters to urban consumers with its bubble tea and a variety of other beverages. The brand is proud to have served over 10 lakh customers to date and has set an ambitious target of achieving Rs 100 crore in net sales within the next 36 months.

Growth Prospects in India’s Beverage Market

According to industry insights, India’s beverage market is projected to surge from $80 billion in 2025 to approximately $155 billion by 2035. Dr Rupali Ambegaonkar has a noteworthy background as the founder of Tea Culture of the World (TCW), a successful tea retail chain boasting more than 200 stores across India. Meanwhile, Sannjeev Rao has an extensive career in leadership roles at prominent companies including Future Group, Aditya Birla Retail, Landmark Dubai, Raymond, and Being Human.

Focus on Quality and Expansion Plans

Bobakat prioritises quality-driven products and offers curated in-store experiences, coupled with audience-focused marketing and scalable store formats. The startup has ambitious plans to launch 35 new stores in FY27, followed by an additional 50 stores each in the subsequent two financial years. This expansion strategy will encompass both metro areas and emerging urban markets.
