Origin’s Construction Robots: A Pioneering Leap in Interior Construction

Origin, a pioneering AI startup focused on robotics for interior construction, has successfully secured $20 million in total funding through a round co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures. This funding round also included contributions from Unilazer Ventures, Schema Ventures, and Z21, alongside angel investors associated with Anduril, Skild AI, 1X, and Tesla.

This financing will be utilised to enhance the robot fleet, roll out their leading robot, OG-1, and initiate customer pilots across the US and Europe. Furthermore, Origin seeks to broaden its robotics platform to encompass more tasks in interior construction.

Overview of Origin’s Innovative Robotics

Founded in 2025 by Yogesh Ghaturle, Ashish Daga, and Tushar Makkar, Origin is dedicated to creating robots that automate various tasks in the realm of interior construction. Its flagship robot, OG-1, is adept at wall finishing activities, including the application of compound, sanding, and wall priming.

OG-1 is purposefully designed to function in a variety of settings, such as commercial buildings, residential flats, data centres, hotels, and warehouses. Within just 10 months of its inception, Origin managed to deploy its initial robots at construction locations in New York.

Expansion Plans and Customer Pilots

Currently, Origin is gearing up for pilot programs with clients in both the US and Europe, which encompass two major drywall finishing contractors within the US. Additionally, they intend to carry out pilot tests in Germany, Sweden, France, and Saudi Arabia.

The robotics are driven by their Construction Action Model, a foundational model specifically created for construction workflows. This advanced system integrates task planning, autonomous navigation, and tool control, enabling the robots to execute construction tasks while adjusting to fluctuating site conditions.

Future Capabilities of OG-1

Origin has ambitious plans to enhance OG-1’s abilities to include additional tasks like taping, drywall installation, drilling, and conduit installation. The goal is to have a total of 150 robots operational by the conclusion of 2027.

This funding is particularly timely, as there is a growing interest in construction robotics within the industry. Companies are increasingly seeking solutions to combat labour shortages and boost productivity. A survey conducted by the Associated General Contractors of America in September 2026 found that worker shortages caused delays in projects for 42% of the surveyed US construction firms.

A report from Zacua Ventures, in collaboration with Hilti Ventures and 94 Ventures, highlighted that construction robotics startups garnered $1.36 billion in venture funding during the first three quarters of 2025, a significant increase compared to $612 million for the entire year of 2024.

Ghaturle had previously established Perpule, a cloud-based point-of-sale platform that was acquired by Amazon in 2021. Makkar oversees autonomy at Origin, having prior experience at AI company Eightfold AI, while Daga leads the hardware division and has a background at digital pathology startup Morphle Labs.

With its headquarters situated in San Francisco, Origin is actively deploying its innovative robots across construction sites throughout the US and Europe.
