AJIO Appoints Sandeep Karwa as New CEO for Enhanced Fashion Commerce
AJIO, a fashion e-commerce platform owned by Reliance Retail, has appointed Sandeep Karwa to a senior leadership position, according to various informed sources. Karwa is set to take over as the Chief Executive Officer of AJIO, while the current CEO, Vineeth Nair, is anticipated to shift into a broader strategic role within Reliance Retail’s fashion sector, as stated by the sources.
Vineeth Nair’s Strategic Role
According to inside sources, Vineeth Nair is likely to expand his responsibilities within the fashion division. This may include overseeing areas related to Reliance Brands. While Sandeep Karwa will lead AJIO, Nair is expected to remain engaged at a strategic level.
Sandeep Karwa’s Experience
Reports indicate that Karwa has already been managing the company for the last several weeks. He recently held the position of country head for Taiwan at Coupang, a major South Korean e-commerce platform. Karwa also boasts extensive leadership experience in retail and consumer industries. Prior to Coupang, he was with Flipkart for nearly 11 years, concluding his tenure as Vice President of the Flipkart Ads platform. Additionally, Karwa has served on the boards of Walmart India, Wildcraft India, and Arvind Fashions Limited.
Impact on Reliance Retail’s Fashion Portfolio
Queries sent to both Reliance and Karwa on Tuesday did not receive a response before the publication of this article. An ET Retail report confirmed that Nair will now oversee a broader fashion and lifestyle portfolio for Reliance Retail. This development emerges as Reliance Retail intensifies its commitment to digital fashion commerce, facing increasing competition from platforms like Myntra, Nykaa Fashion, Tata CLiQ Fashion, and fast-fashion brands.
AJIO is regarded as one of Reliance Retail’s significant investments in fashion commerce, featuring an array of mass-premium brands, private labels, and collaborations with global fashion entities.
