Vedantu Financial Growth in a Challenging Edtech Market

Vedantu has demonstrated substantial resilience and growth in the online education sector amidst recent significant upheavals, including Byju’s downfall and Unacademy’s acquisition by UpGrad. The company experienced notable revenue increases and enhanced operational metrics in FY26, showing improvements in its bottom line when excluding exceptional items.

Revenue Performance of Vedantu

Vedantu’s Bengaluru headquarters has enabled the edtech unicorn to enjoy a revenue boost of 17.6%, reaching Rs 267 crore in FY26 compared to Rs 227 crore in the previous fiscal year, as detailed in their consolidated financial statements reviewed by Startup Superb. The primary revenue driver for Vedantu continued to be tuition fees, which rose by 16.8% to Rs 222 crore from Rs 190 crore in FY25. Additionally, revenue derived from books, uniforms, and other educational products increased significantly by 31.8%, amounting to Rs 29 crore, while e-learning project income was recorded at Rs 6.3 crore during the last fiscal year.

Total Income and Expense Analysis

With non-operating income reported at Rs 3.8 crore, Vedantu’s total income for the fiscal year ending March 2026 reached Rs 270 crore. On the expenditure side, employee benefit expenses, which represent the largest component of costs, saw a decline of 12.8%, dropping to Rs 191 crore in FY26 from Rs 219.5 crore in FY25. This figure includes Rs 7.2 crore attributed to ESOP costs (non-cash). In contrast, expenditures for contracted and outsourced resources surged by 54.3% to Rs 71 crore, while depreciation expenses fell by 5.8% to Rs 65 crore. Advertising and promotional expenses climbed 7.4% to Rs 29 crore, and technology expenses were reported at Rs 12 crore. Overall, Vedantu’s total expenses remained stable at Rs 442 crore in FY26.

Improvement in Financial Metrics

Accompanied by steady growth and stable expenses, Vedantu’s losses before exceptional items and tax shrank by 18.6%, amounting to Rs 171 crore in FY26, down from Rs 210 crore in FY25. These figures exclude exceptional income and expenses related to shifts in the fair valuation for responsibilities carried forward in both FY25 and FY26, ensuring a clearer representation of the company’s financial standing.

Current Financial Position of Vedantu

As of March 2026, Vedantu enhanced its expense-to-operating revenue ratio at the unit level. The organisation reported cash and bank balances amounting to Rs 77.25 crore, with total current assets reaching Rs 160 crore. This progress points to Vedantu’s continuous adaptation within a more consolidated edtech environment, especially following the collapse of Byju’s and Unacademy’s strategic reduction in operations. The competitive landscape has now been reshaped, with Physics Wallah becoming a leading competitor in the online education and test preparation arena.

Future Prospects and Funding

Unlike the previous funding-driven expansion phase, the future of competition is anticipated to hinge on student outcomes, pricing structures, and establishing a sustainable business model. In September 2025, Vedantu raised $11 million from internal investors as part of a larger funding round led by ABC World Asia, with contributions from Accel India and Omidyar. This funding is poised to bolster its capabilities and allow it to effectively compete with Physics Wallah.

Positive Indicators for Vedantu’s Growth

Vedantu’s enhanced performance in its core business signifies a potential transition to a more stable phase following the challenges faced by the edtech sector. The firm’s capacity to achieve revenue growth while keeping overall expenses relatively flat is a promising indication. The emphasis will now shift towards maintaining this revenue trajectory, enhancing cash flows, and fortifying a robust business as competition continues to intensify.

Interestingly, the fact that PW is now publicly traded may not hinder Vedantu’s prospects, as it can pursue opportunities without the pressure of market evaluations. However, some may argue that PW’s public status has instilled a greater level of discipline within their operations. Observers believe Vedantu has the potential to surprise the industry, with significant developments possibly occurring as early as the conclusion of the current financial year (FY27) or the following year (FY28).
