Vikra Ocean Tech Raises $1 Million for Innovative Ocean Robotics
Vikra Ocean Tech, a deeptech startup, has successfully secured $1 million in a seed funding round co-led by Finvolve and India Accelerator. The startup plans to utilise the funds to enhance product manufacturing, bolster its sales pipeline within the defence sector and public sector undertakings (PSUs), as well as create recurring revenue streams, as stated in a press release from Vikra Ocean Tech.
About Vikra Ocean Tech
Established in 2019 by Rajeuv Govindan and Rajagurunathan Krishnasamy, Vikra Ocean Tech is at the forefront of developing a native, modular ocean robotics ecosystem. This encompasses deep-water ROVs, autonomous surface vessels, amphibious crawling robots, alongside AI-enabled imaging and communication systems.
Innovative Solutions Designed for India
With a focus on interoperability using a unified control platform, the company aims to diminish India’s reliance on imported underwater robotics by providing cost-effective, mission-ready systems. Their solutions are specifically tailored for use in defence operations, subsea inspections, hydrographic surveys, and emergency response.
Integrated Hardware Stack
The Chennai-based startup boasts an integrated hardware stack powered by locally sourced cameras, lighting, diver communication systems, and AI-driven video enhancement tools. This combination allows for simplified and scalable operational capabilities.
Market Traction and Achievements
Vikra Ocean Tech reports strong early traction in both defence and commercial sectors. The startup has successfully obtained two iDEX grants from the Indian Army and the Indian Coast Guard. Furthermore, they have developed deep-ocean camera and lighting systems that are capable of withstanding depths of up to 2,000 meters. Their Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) systems are increasingly being adopted for various offshore marine exploration purposes.
Competitive Landscape
In this evolving industry, Vikra Ocean Tech competes with several notable startups like Odisha-based Coratia Technologies, Planys, Eyerov, and Sagar Defence, which are also making strides in ocean robotics.
