One97 Communications, the parent entity of Paytm, released its financial outcomes for the first quarter of FY27 on Monday. The company has reported a remarkable 79% year-on-year growth in profit, reaching Rs 220 crore, while revenue from operations has experienced an over 27% increase during this timeframe.

Paytm’s operational revenue climbed to Rs 2,448 crore in Q1 FY27, up from Rs 1,918 crore in Q1 FY26, as noted in its unaudited quarterly report submitted to the National Stock Exchange (NSE). Additionally, the firm earned Rs 182 crore from non-operating sources, bringing its total income to Rs 2,630 crore for Q1 FY27. Comparatively, Paytm’s revenue rose 8% sequentially from Rs 2,264 crore in Q4 FY26.

Major Expenses and Costs

For this fintech company, payment processing charges represented the largest proportion of expenses, constituting more than 33% of total costs. This expenditure saw a year-on-year increase of 36%, amounting to Rs 794 crore. The next significant cost was employee benefits, which reached Rs 742 crore, reflecting a nearly 16% increase during the same period.

Marketing expenses surged by 69% year-on-year to Rs 169 crore in Q1 FY27. Costs associated with software, cloud services, communication, legal fees, cashback, and other overheads contributed to total expenditure reaching Rs 2,383 crore this quarter, compared to Rs 2,016 crore in the same period last year.

Q1 FY27 Performance Highlights

After achieving full-year profitability in the preceding fiscal year, Paytm commenced FY27 on a strong note, with profits soaring 79% year-on-year to Rs 220 crore in Q1 FY27, up from Rs 123 crore in Q1 FY26. Furthermore, Paytm has introduced new employee stock options (ESOPs) valued at almost Rs 208 crore, encompassing 15.42 lakh equity shares under its ESOP 2019 scheme, as per an additional NSE notice.
