Zepto Collaborates with ED in Parimatch Investigation
Quick commerce platform Zepto has confirmed its complete cooperation with the Enforcement Directorate (ED), having shared all available details regarding an investigation related to the betting platform Parimatch. This clarification follows media reports indicating that the ED had requested information from Zepto as part of its ongoing inquiries into Parimatch and its promotional activities in India.
Details of the Investigation
In response to questions from Startup Superb, Zepto stated that the issue pertains to an advertisement placed in March 2025 through a third-party media and vendor arrangement for a merchandise entity. A representative of Zepto explained that the company did not directly engage, contract with, or manage the advertiser in question and had no involvement in any betting, gaming, payments, user acquisition, or operational activities linked to the entity under investigation.
Campaign Management and Cooperation
According to Zepto, the advertisement campaign was managed externally, and the company facilitated contact between investigating officials and the relevant vendor to support any further inquiries. Zepto emphasized that it has fully cooperated with the ED, providing all information it possesses. Additionally, the company dismissed any implications that it had an operational role in the activities under investigation.
Regulatory Scrutiny on Betting Platforms
Recent media reports highlight that the ED is looking into alleged promotional activities associated with Parimatch, including advertisements and marketing materials that may have reached consumers via the platform. The agency is also reportedly pursuing details regarding the advertiser verification processes and the specifics of Zepto’s engagement, if any, with the advertiser. This development occurs amid an increase in regulatory scrutiny of offshore betting and gaming platforms, as enforcement agencies are increasingly examining how such entities may have connected with Indian consumers.
