Echo Devices Launch with Alexa+
Amazon has unveiled four new Echo devices tailored for Alexa+, the latest version of the company’s AI assistant. This new range features the Echo Dot Max, Echo Studio, Echo Show 8, and Echo Show 11, each enhanced with new silicon, advanced sensors, and a reimagined design aimed at providing more tailored and proactive AI experiences.
Introducing Alexa+
Alexa+, revealed earlier this year, serves as a conversational assistant capable of managing a variety of tasks, including smart home operations and calendar organisation. Amazon reports that customers who have had early access to Alexa+ are using it more often and for extended periods than they did with the previous Alexa version.
New Custom Silicon and Sensors
At the heart of these upgraded Echo devices are Amazon’s innovative AZ3 and AZ3 Pro chips, both crafted to support sophisticated AI tasks. The AZ3 chip powers the Echo Dot Max, enhancing wake-word recognition and voice clarity, while the AZ3 Pro chip found in the Echo Studio and Echo Show models accommodates more intricate language processing and vision-based functionalities.
These devices also feature Amazon’s Omnisense sensor fusion platform, integrating data from microphones, cameras, ultrasound, Wi-Fi radar, and motion detection systems. This allows Alexa+ to engage in context-aware interactions, such as triggering reminders when someone enters a room or notifying users about doors left ajar.
Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio
The Echo Dot Max has undergone significant redesign, boasting a two-way speaker system featuring both a woofer and tweeter, which delivers nearly three times the bass compared to its former model. It is priced at 99.99 dollars.
The Echo Studio has been made 40% smaller from its predecessor but retains key features like spatial audio and Dolby Atmos support. It sports a revamped acoustic system and a new spherical design. The speaker will retail at 219.99 dollars.
Echo Show 8 and Echo Show 11
The newly designed Echo Show smart displays come equipped with improved screen clarity along with a 13MP camera for visual communications. These displays also facilitate family calendars, entertainment controls, and advanced smart home management.
Both models feature front-facing stereo speakers and redesigned woofers to enhance spatial audio. The Echo Show 8 is priced at 179.99 dollars, while the Echo Show 11 will be available for 219.99 dollars.
Availability
Both the Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio are set to launch on 29 October, with the Echo Show 8 and Echo Show 11 following on 12 November. Customers in the United States who order any of these new devices will receive immediate access to Alexa+.
