Amazon Expands in India with New Bengaluru Office Campus
Amazon has revealed plans to establish a new office campus in Bengaluru, India. This development is claimed to be the second-largest office in Asia, extending over an area of 1.1 million square feet. The new facility is expected to accommodate more than 7000 employees focusing on various domains including ecommerce, operations, payments, technology, and seller services in India.
Campus Location and Inauguration
The Amazon campus is situated approximately 15 km from Kempegowda International Airport. Spanning five acres and comprising 12 storeys, the campus was officially inaugurated by Dr M.B. Patil, the Minister for Large & Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, Government of Karnataka. This launch underscores Amazon’s ongoing commitment to India, where it has already committed around $40 billion, with plans to invest an additional $35 billion by 2030.
Focus on Bengaluru
Samir Kumar, the Country Manager for Amazon India, mentioned that India remains a long-term priority for Amazon, highlighting Bengaluru’s pivotal role in the company’s journey. The city has been home to some of Amazon’s earliest technology and business teams, and it continues to be an essential hub for innovation and talent.
Features of the New Campus
The new Amazon campus will include various amenities such as meeting rooms, huddle spaces, breakout areas, and event spaces capable of hosting more than 200 individuals, promoting collaboration and flexibility. Additionally, employees will enjoy recreational facilities including basketball and pickleball courts, an amphitheatre, landscaped lawns, and outdoor community areas.
The office complex will also feature cafeterias across two floors offering a variety of global cuisines.
Strengthening Presence in India
By establishing this new office space, Amazon enhances its presence in India, particularly in Bengaluru, which is recognised as a global technology hub. This expansion bolsters Amazon’s capability to scale teams and drive innovation, supporting its long-term growth objectives within the country.
