Amazon has revealed plans to enhance its partnership with AI company Anthropic by investing over $25 billion to develop AI infrastructure. This investment builds on the $8 billion Amazon has already allocated to Anthropic since 2023.
In a recent blog update, Anthropic announced its intention to invest more than $100 billion over the next decade in Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies. Furthermore, the company has secured access to up to 5 gigawatts (GW) of compute power for training and operating its Claude AI model.
Benefits of the Collaboration
This partnership will enable Anthropic to utilise Amazon’s specialised chips, such as Graviton and Trainium, including upcoming iterations like Trainium 4. Anthropic is also dedicated to acquiring future versions of Amazon’s custom silicon.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy commented on the collaboration, noting that Anthropic’s dedication to using AWS Trainium for its large language models over the next decade highlights the advancements made in custom silicon. This progress is crucial as they continue to provide the infrastructure necessary for customers to innovate with generative AI.
Investment Breakdown
Anthropic disclosed that Amazon will currently invest $5 billion, with potential additional funding of up to $20 billion contingent on commercial objectives being met. The firm aims to deliver nearly 1 gigawatt of computing capacity by the end of the year, leveraging Amazon’s AI chips, particularly Trainium2 and Trainium3.
Importance of the Collaboration
The significance of this alliance is underscored by Anthropic’s report that its run-rate revenue has surged to $30 billion, a notable increase from approximately $9 billion at the close of 2025, driven by substantial demand from enterprises and developers. As this demand escalates, Anthropic is experiencing considerable pressure on its infrastructure, which may lead to performance or reliability issues for users across its free, Pro, Max, and Team plans.
To enhance its AI infrastructure, Anthropic is collaborating with significant players like Amazon. This expanded partnership is expected to bolster computing capacity for Anthropic, with a total of around 1GW projected by the year’s end. The company has also indicated that it is employing a variety of chips and hardware, rather than solely depending on a single type.
The company noted that it is constructing the necessary infrastructure to maintain Claude at the forefront, ensuring reliable service for its expanding customer base.
