Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu Set to Unveil India’s Premier Quantum Test and Certification Hub on April 14

Quantum Computer Test Beds Inaugurated in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate two quantum computer test beds on April 14, marking the state as the first in India to establish a specialised quantum testing and certification ecosystem.

Scheduled to coincide with World Quantum Day, this launch is part of the broader Amaravati Quantum Valley initiative. The new facilities are set to commence operations at SRM University and Medha Towers in Gannavaram. Officials highlighted the purpose of this initiative is to create a strong infrastructure for quantum research, hardware validation, and industry partnerships.

Details of the Quantum Facilities

The two newly established facilities feature a 1Q test bed developed by Qubitech at Medha Towers and a 1S superconducting test bed located at SRM University. Both systems are designed to operate at near -273 degrees Celsius, facilitating the testing of quantum components and devices under conditions approaching absolute zero.

State officials referred to these facilities as “Quantum Reference Facilities” aimed at delivering testing and certification capabilities for quantum computing hardware, where India currently lacks robust infrastructure.

The state government stated that this initiative will allow for the testing and certification of quantum computing hardware, signalling a new era of advanced technological capabilities in Amaravati.

Open Access Platform at SRM University

The SRM University facility will serve as an open-access platform, enabling researchers, students, startups, and enterprises to explore and validate quantum technologies. The government anticipates that this will foster innovation and help establish a domestic ecosystem surrounding quantum hardware and applications.

Indigenous Development of Test Beds

Both test beds have been constructed using domestic components, aligning with India’s overarching goal of self-reliance in deep technology. Technical support has been provided by prominent institutions including the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Indian Institute of Science, and the Defence Research and Development Organisation.

The government emphasised that this initiative is focused on positioning Amaravati as a global hub for quantum innovation, especially as nations compete to enhance capabilities in quantum computing, communications, and cryptography.
