Apple Settlement: Resolving Siri Misadvertisement Issues
Apple is set to disburse over $250 million in a settlement related to a lawsuit about misleading millions of iPhone users with false claims regarding the AI-powered capabilities of Siri by late 2024. With this settlement, users of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 in the United States will receive compensation from Apple for delays in the promised features.
Settlement Details for iPhone Users
According to a report by the BBC, Apple is compensating each iPhone buyer in the US, who purchased the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 series between June 2024 and March 2025, with amounts ranging from $25 to $95. Reuters has highlighted Apple stating that it has “come to a settlement to address claims concerning the rollout of two additional features. This matter has been resolved to enable us to concentrate on what we excel at, providing innovative products and services to our customers.”
Legal Filing and Approval Status
The proposed settlement has been submitted to the court for approval as of May 5. It is important to note that this does not imply any admission of wrongdoing by Apple and affects nearly 36 million devices. In 2024, Apple launched a significant advertising campaign to showcase its AI-enhanced Siri features, which attracted many purchasers during the iPhone 15 Pro models’ launch. Despite this, the features were delayed, and Apple has yet to provide a definitive timeline regarding when iPhone users can expect these features to be available.
Pending Court Approval
It is essential to recognise that the settlement is not yet final. Judge Noel Wise is tasked with evaluating the request for court approval, with the hearing scheduled for June 17, 2026, in the federal district court for the Northern District of California.
Looking Ahead: Siri Upgrades and iOS 27
While the much-anticipated Siri upgrade has experienced delays exceeding two years, iOS 27 is expected to introduce significant advancements in Apple’s AI initiatives. The company has recently partnered with Apple to develop foundational AI models utilising Gemini technology. Therefore, users may have to wait until June’s WWDC 2026 to discover what Apple has in store for the upcoming year.
