Apple Increases iPhone Manufacturing to 25% in India: New Insights

Apple Inc Increases iPhone Manufacturing in India

Apple Inc is increasing iPhone manufacturing in India as it aims to lessen its dependency on China, amidst ongoing trade tensions and tariff concerns. According to a Bloomberg report, the technology leader is producing nearly 25% of its iPhones in India as part of its accelerated efforts in the region.

The report highlights that Apple has boosted iPhone production in India by approximately 53% in 2025, with output reaching around 55 million units, an increase from 36 million units in 2024. This represents a significant reliance on India, as Apple manufactures about 230 million iPhones globally each year.

This expansion in India coincides with reports that iPhones shipped from China are facing significant hurdles due to uncertain US tariffs, stemming from tensions between the United States and China. Consequently, exporting iPhones from China to the US has become unexpectedly costly.

As a result, India has emerged as a key beneficiary of Apple’s iPhone manufacturing strategy. The report additionally links Apple’s growing presence in the country to the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The scheme has provided companies with financial incentives or subsidies to manufacture products within India, creating a cost-effective environment that encourages global firms to establish factories and boost production in the country.

Reportedly, Apple is assembling the latest iPhone 17 range in India, which includes the premium Pro and Pro Max models. Its manufacturing partners encompass China’s Foxconn Technology Group, Tata Electronics, and Pegatron Corp.

In addition to enhancing manufacturing facilities, the technology giant is also focused on increasing its market share in India. There are rumours of an impending launch of Apple Pay later this year. Moreover, Apple is expanding its retail footprint with six new stores in major tech hubs across India.
