MacBook Neo Price Increase Consideration
Earlier this year, Apple introduced its most budget-friendly laptop, the MacBook Neo, priced at Rs 69,990. Nonetheless, the company is reportedly contemplating a price rise by adding new colour options to the selection. However, this is not the sole reason for the potential increase.
Rising Production Costs
As highlighted in Tim Culpan’s newsletter, a tech columnist based in Taiwan, Apple is investing more in the components and parts required for production. This situation could lead to an eventual rise in the MacBook Neo price for consumers.
Enhancing Aesthetics
To ensure the laptop remains visually appealing amidst a potential price hike, Apple is also considering introducing fresh colour options or finishes. Currently, the device is offered in four hues: Citrus, Blush, Indigo, and Silver. However, Apple has yet to determine which additional colours will suit the lineup.
MacBook Neo Demand Surges
The report further indicates that Apple has doubled the production of the MacBook Neo in response to unexpectedly high demand. Apple CEO Tim Cook informed investors that the device surpassed initial projections, prompting the company to instruct suppliers to prepare 10 million units, up from an initial aim of 6 million units.
Cook commented that the company was optimistic about the product prior to its launch but underestimated the level of enthusiasm surrounding it, stating that they are currently facing supply constraints regarding the MacBook Neo.
Production Challenges
It has been reported that Apple is experiencing escalating production costs for the MacBook Neo as it requires a fresh supply of A18 Pro chips from TSMC. This need arises after depleting its existing stock due to robust demand.
Previously, lower-cost “binned” versions with minor imperfections were repurposed for the Neo. However, the latest production run is expected to involve premium chips.
Additionally, there is a shortfall in advanced 3nm chip manufacturing capacity as AI firms are extensively utilising it to develop high-performance AI processors. Simultaneously, DRAM memory prices are also on the rise due to significant demand. As a result of these challenges, Apple may contemplate an increase in the price of the MacBook Neo.
