Touchscreen Support Coming to MacBook Pro Lineup
Touchscreen support may soon be a reality for the MacBook Pro series, according to insights from industry experts. This development signals a significant design evolution for Apple, which has historically been hesitant to incorporate touch input into its laptops.
OLED MacBook Pro Features
Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has indicated that the inaugural MacBook Pro featuring an OLED display could also include touchscreen capabilities. This panel is expected to utilise on-cell touch technology sourced from Samsung, with mass production anticipated to commence in late 2026. A commercial rollout might follow in early 2027.
Insights into User Behaviour
Kuo pointed out that Apple’s decision seems to stem from a long-term analysis of user interactions on the iPad, concluding that touchscreen controls can significantly enhance productivity and user satisfaction in certain contexts. Experts believe that this adjustment may also narrow the distinction between MacBooks and iPads, which have historically occupied different roles within Apple’s product range.
Processor and Design Speculation
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has also commented on Apple’s intentions regarding the OLED MacBook Pro, suggesting it could feature the M6 chip, although more recent speculations favour the upcoming M7 processor.
Feature Uncertainties
While specifics remain sparse, uncertainties linger about whether the MacBook Pro will include features like a 360-degree hinge or compatibility with the Apple Pencil.
Upcoming Budget MacBook Details
Additionally, Apple is developing an entry-level MacBook powered by the A18 Pro chip from the iPhone 16 Pro series, with an expected price around $700. Notably, this model will not come with touchscreen functionality initially. Kuo mentioned that the second iteration of the budget MacBook, anticipated for 2027, might include touchscreen support, although this aspect is still under consideration within Apple.
