iOS 26.1 Beta 2: Enhancements and Features
iOS 26.1 Beta 2 has been launched by Apple for developers and beta testers, following the initial iOS 26.1 beta release. This update introduces several minor yet impactful improvements, such as a new toggle for Background Security Improvements, enhanced workout features, and polished interface elements.
New Features in iOS 26.1 Beta 2
As with prior beta versions, Apple has limited details regarding all new functionalities. The release notes indicate that iOS 26 beta provides an early insight into upcoming applications, features, and technologies. The build number for this version is 23B5059e.
Background Security Improvements
A new option for Background Security Improvements has been added in the Privacy and Security section of Settings. This toggle allows users to automatically receive and install security updates, replacing the former Rapid Security Responses feature.
Clock App Usability Improvement
The Clock app has undergone a subtle change; instead of tapping the screen to stop an alarm, users now need to slide across the display to dismiss it. A tap will activate the snooze function. This modification aims to reduce accidental alarm dismissals, making morning routines more intentional.
Fitness App Custom Workouts
Within the Fitness app, users now have the capability to create custom workouts, selecting their preferred type of exercise, duration, effort level, Active Calories target, and start time. This feature enhances flexibility for those who seek personalised workout plans over Apple’s standard routines.
Visual Refinements in Settings
The update also includes visual updates. Text and icon alignment in Settings has shifted to the left, replacing the previous centred layout. This adjustment applies to folder names on the Home Screen, resulting in a neater interface.
Photos App Menu Update
The Photos app now positions essential options like Favourite, Play as Slideshow, and Hide at the top of the menu instead of hidden in a dropdown list, facilitating faster access to these features. Additional enhancements include a new Display Borders toggle in Accessibility settings and improved light refraction effects with darker icons and wallpapers. A Pinch to Crop indicator will briefly display when setting a wallpaper.
Availability of the Update
The update can be accessed over the air (OTA) by registered Apple developers and beta testers using iPhone 11 or newer models. A public beta is available for users enrolled in Apple’s beta software programme. To install the update, users should navigate to Settings > General > Software Update > Install Now.
