iOS 26.1 Update – New Features and Enhancements

iOS 26.1 introduces significant improvements, including a new transparency toggle for its Liquid Glass interface. This feature responds to earlier criticisms regarding visibility, enabling users to modify the transparency of navigation components such as buttons and tabs.

Liquid Glass Transparency Options

As demonstrated in the iOS 26.1 beta version, users are now able to select from two visual styles for the Liquid Glass interface. One maintains the original translucent design, while the alternative introduces a frosted effect that enhances opacity and contrast, making text and icons more legible.

Feature Enhancements in iOS 26.1

The update also brings a variety of feature enhancements to Apple’s ecosystem:

• The Liquid Glass setting now provides a choice between the standard clear design or a new tinted variant that increases opacity within apps and on the Lock Screen.
• Live Translation with AirPods has extended its support to include Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, and Italian.
• A swipe gesture for skipping tracks has been added to the Apple Music MiniPlayer.
• Apple Music AutoMix is now compatible with AirPlay.
• Users can now gain control for external USB microphones during local capture recording.
• Files from local capture can be saved to a designated location.
• Manual workout logging is now available directly within the Fitness app.
• A new Camera setting allows users to disable the Lock Screen swipe-to-camera feature.
• FaceTime audio performance has been improved for low-bandwidth circumstances.
• Communication Safety features and web filters that block adult content are now automatically activated for existing child accounts aged 13–17, with variations depending on region.
