macOS Tahoe 26.2 Update with Edge Light Feature
macOS Tahoe 26.2 has been released by Apple, representing the second significant upgrade to its macOS Tahoe operating system. This update arrives five weeks after the previous version, 26.1, and is now accessible for download through the Software Update section in System Settings for compatible Mac users.
New Edge Light Feature in macOS Tahoe 26.2
The standout addition in macOS Tahoe 26.2 is the Edge Light feature, a new video effect aimed at enhancing users’ visibility during video calls in dimly lit environments. This feature utilises the display of the Mac to gently brighten the user’s face, simulating the effect of a virtual ring light without requiring extra equipment.
Edge Light provides users with the ability to adjust both the width and colour temperature of the illumination, allowing for personalised control over brightness and warmth. Additionally, Apple has introduced mouse awareness, which modifies the illuminated area when users move their cursor, ensuring that on-screen content remains easy to see. On supported Macs released in 2024 or later, the feature can automatically activate when a video call starts in low ambient light.
Enhancements Across Core Apps
In addition to the video call improvements, macOS Tahoe 26.2 brings multiple enhancements to core applications. The Podcasts app now features automatically generated chapters, facilitating easier navigation through longer episodes. Users can click on links to specific podcasts mentioned within an episode, enabling quick access to explore and follow them directly from the player or transcript.
Improvements for Gaming and System Features
The update also expands gaming capabilities, introducing new filters in the Games library that enable users to categorise titles by type, size, and more. Real-time in-game challenge score banners are visible when a new leader emerges, and support for connected controllers has seen enhancements.
Moreover, this update offers various system improvements and bug fixes. AirDrop now incorporates verification codes when transmitting files to unknown contacts, enhancing security. Apple News has added section links in the sidebar for expedited access to subjects like Sports, Politics, Business, and Food. The Freeform app has been updated to support tables that can contain text, images, documents, and drawings, with intelligently resizing cells. Apple Music now highlights the Favourite Songs playlist in Top Picks, and a playback issue impacting pre-release albums has been resolved.
Edge Light is accessible on Macs equipped with Apple silicon running macOS Tahoe 26.2 or newer. The automatic activation feature for low-light conditions is available on Macs released in 2024 or later. The Edge Light feature is compatible with the built-in camera, Continuity Camera, or any supported external cameras.
