According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the tech leader is actively pursuing the development of AirPods equipped with built-in cameras, likely to make their appearance in the AirPods Pro 4.

Revolutionary Features of Upcoming AirPods

Gurman’s Power On newsletter indicates that Apple is creating a version of AirPods that leverages external cameras and AI technology to interpret the user’s environment in real-time. Although this innovative feature is not expected to appear in the AirPods Pro 3, Apple plans to roll it out in 2027, coinciding with the anticipated release of its smart glasses.

Interacting with Environment through AirPods

“This would essentially be the smart glasses path but without actual glasses,” Gurman emphasised, implying that users will have the ability to engage with Siri for contextual information about their surroundings, all achieved through their earbuds.

The incorporation of cameras in AirPods stands to enhance Apple’s Visual Intelligence technology, which was initially introduced in the iPhone 16 series featuring the camera control option.
