Claude AI Enhancements: Computer Capabilities Expanded
Claude AI now possesses the ability to perform various tasks on your computer, including file management, web browsing, and the use of developer tools. The latest updates to Claude Code and Claude Cowork tools provide Claude with enhanced functionalities to act autonomously on behalf of users.
Anthropic’s Claude AI account on X (previously Twitter) shared a recent update announcing these improvements. It stated that users can enable Claude to operate their computer to accomplish tasks. Claude can open applications, browse the web, and manage spreadsheets—essentially replicating what one would do while working at their desk.
Research preview for Claude Cowork and Claude Code is currently available on macOS only.

How Claude Operates Your Computer
When the computer-control functionality of Claude is activated, it utilizes connectors for compatible applications like Google Workspace or Slack to carry out tasks. In instances where a connector is unavailable, Claude seeks alternative methods to execute the assigned tasks effectively.
The process is thorough; users receive notifications prior to significant actions, allowing them to monitor activities in real-time or review outcomes once the tasks are complete. This transforms Claude from merely being an AI chatbot into a capable assistant that can manage an entire workflow from start to finish.
According to Anthropic, Claude can point, click, and navigate in ways similar to a user, enabling it to accomplish everything from file opening and editing to handling intricate software tasks. With the Dispatch feature, users can give instructions to Claude straight from their mobile devices.
To utilise this advanced function, users are required to update both their Claude Desktop and mobile applications and ensure they are paired for seamless task execution.
Availability for Users
The new computer capabilities on Claude will be initially accessible to Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers on macOS. Presently, the feature is undergoing testing in research preview as the company seeks ongoing feedback regarding its performance.
Plans are in place to extend AI feature support to Windows x64 in future updates.
