Snapdragon 8 Elite 2: Qualcomm’s Upcoming Flagship Chipset
Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is anticipated to launch in September 2025, according to reports from China. Qualcomm, a significant player in smartphone chipset manufacturing, appears to be advancing its usual schedule for this flagship chipset.
Early Launch for Snapdragon 8 Elite 2
In the preceding year, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset was released in October, earlier than the original December timeline. Traditionally, Qualcomm might follow this pattern again; however, a report from the industry insider Digital Chat Station (DCS) on Weibo indicates that its successor, Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, is on track for a September release. Consequently, Chinese smartphone brands are expected to debut devices equipped with this new chipset by October 2025.
Competition with the iPhone 17 Series
If this timeline proves accurate, the initial smartphone to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will compete directly against the iPhone 17 series, anticipated to launch in September alongside Apple’s A19 SoC.
Performance Enhancements in Snapdragon 8 Elite 2
The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is projected to deliver substantial enhancements, particularly regarding performance and efficiency. Notable improvements in the base CPU clock speed are expected, which should boost overall performance. Additionally, gaming experiences are likely to improve thanks to advancements in the GPU cache.
Manufacturing Advances with TSMC’s Technology
Manufacturing of the chipset is expected to utilise TSMC’s 3nm technology, which should contribute further to enhanced performance and power efficiency. It is yet to be determined whether these improvements will lead to a price increase, as seen last year with the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
Xiaomi and Other Manufacturers
Last year, Xiaomi was among the first manufacturers to integrate the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset into their flagship offerings, beginning with the Xiaomi 15 series in China, which debuted shortly after Qualcomm’s announcement in Hawaii. This year, Xiaomi and various other Chinese OEMs are once again anticipated to take the lead. Consumers in India can expect more devices featuring the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset available towards late 2025 and early 2026.
