Elon Musk’s Feud with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman
Elon Musk has once again targeted OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, lately branding him as ‘Scam Altman’, a nickname previously used. The Tesla CEO referenced a video of Altman during a session at the US Senate Judiciary subcommittee, reigniting their ongoing rivalry. This clip, initially posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Tesla Owners Silicon Valley, features Altman’s statements from 16 May 2023.
Altman’s Testimony at the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee
During the congressional hearing, Altman asserted that he does not possess any equity in OpenAI and is solely involved due to his passion for the field. When questioned about his earnings, he replied, “No. I’m paid enough for health insurance. I have no equity in OpenAI.” He continued, expressing his motivation, stating that he is engaged in this work because he loves it.
Musk and Altman’s Deepening Dispute
Musk has previously labeled Altman a “swindler” and a “liar”, emphasizing the escalating divide between the two. Once collaborators at OpenAI, they have been in a public disagreement concerning the company’s trajectory for several years. Recently, their conflict intensified when a consortium led by Musk presented a $97.4 billion bid to acquire the non-profit entity overseeing OpenAI.
Musk’s recent comments underscore the ongoing friction between these two tech personalities, particularly as OpenAI continues to advance its artificial intelligence initiatives.
