Changing your Google account email address has become a reality, a long-anticipated enhancement. Currently, this new feature is being introduced to Google account holders in the US. Users can now update their usernames, specifically the segment appearing before the “@gmail.com” part.
Google confirmed that any email address modifications will be reflected across its various services including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Photos, Google Drive, and more. The company also reassured users that ownership of the original email address will remain intact even after changes are made.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai communicated via an X post, stating that the year 2004 was memorable; however, users should not feel tied to their outdated Gmail addresses.
2004 was a good year, but your Gmail address doesn’t need to be stuck in it. To say goodbye to v0t3f0rp3dr02004@gmail.com or mrbrightside416@gmail.com (or whatever you were into at the time), visit your Google Account settings and select any available name. Your old data will be preserved…

Step 1: Access Google Account Settings
Navigate to your Google account settings, then tap on “Personal Info.”
Step 2: Locate Email Options

This new functionality offers users the flexibility to adopt their desired @gmail.com address. Furthermore, they can still log in and send or receive emails using both addresses.
Google permits users to change their account’s email address once a year, and up to three changes in total. The organisation ensures that no emails or data will be lost in the process, and users retain the option to revert to their prior email address if desired.
Currently, the capability to change the Google email address is limited to the US, and the timeline for worldwide availability remains unannounced. Thus, Google account holders outside the US might need to remain patient if global implementation is anticipated in the future.
