Scheduled Actions: Enhance Productivity with Google’s Gemini AI Assistant

Google is enhancing its Gemini AI assistant with an exciting feature known as Scheduled Actions, which empowers users to automate tasks and receive timely, tailored updates without having to repeat instructions.

Announced during Google I/O and currently being rolled out, Scheduled Actions enables Gemini to execute tasks at designated times or on a recurring schedule. For example, users can get a motivational quote each morning at 7 AM, have their grocery list updated every Friday evening, or receive a daily summary of key news headlines at lunchtime—allowing Gemini to manage these requests proactively.

This functionality positions Gemini alongside similar automated prompts released by OpenAI for ChatGPT. However, Gemini’s integration into Google’s extensive ecosystem provides it with a significant advantage. It can access various services such as Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and more, ensuring a streamlined and cohesive experience. Whether it’s providing reminders to reply to a flagged email or summarising upcoming travel details from your inbox, Gemini works seamlessly.

According to a recent blog post by Google, users also have the ability to amend existing scheduled tasks by adjusting the timing, altering the content, or completely removing them. Gemini is now capable of retrieving information from across your Google account to offer relevant updates. For instance, it can notify users when a package delivery email is received or provide localised weather forecasts.

Who Can Access Scheduled Actions?

At present, the availability of Gemini’s Scheduled Actions feature is somewhat restricted. This functionality is currently accessible only to users who subscribe to Google’s AI Pro or Ultra plans, as well as those with eligible Workspace business or education accounts. Unlike ChatGPT, which limits users to ten scheduled tasks, Google has not specified whether Gemini will have any similar restrictions or how it manages expired or replaced tasks.

Ongoing Enhancements to Gemini

In addition, Google is actively working on further improvements for Gemini. An upgraded preview of Gemini 2.5 Pro, which is the company’s latest language model featuring enhanced coding capabilities, will soon be made available. Moreover, engaging with Gemini Live has become more user-friendly; individuals can now swipe from the right edge of the screen for instant access, replacing the previous requirement of tapping a designated button.
