AI-Powered Exam Preparation with Google Gemini for SAT
AI-Powered Exam Preparation is now easier than ever for students gearing up for university entrance tests. Google has rolled out an important enhancement of its AI assistant, Gemini, featuring comprehensive, free practice exams for the SAT in collaboration with Khan Academy.
New Features Announced at BETT Conference
These innovative features were unveiled at the British Educational Training and Technology (BETT) conference, aimed at ensuring quality exam preparation and academic assistance are within reach for all students.
Partnership for Quality Learning Materials
In collaboration with established educational authorities like The Princeton Review and Khan Academy, Google has committed to developing AI tools grounded in thoroughly vetted and useful educational materials, as opposed to generic resources.
Khan Academy Integration with CBSE/NCERT
The integration with Khan Academy significantly enhances educational opportunities in India and beyond, allowing Gemini to incorporate Khan Academy’s vast array of practice exercises and instructional videos directly.
Tailored Educational Content
This partnership allows Gemini to provide precise and reliable explanations from Khan Academy when students have questions related to biology, history, or calculus, presenting the information in an organised manner.
Course material aligns with the CBSE and NCERT curricula, providing localised content for students from classes 1 to 12. The resources will be accessible in nine primary languages: Hindi, English, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Punjabi, Assamese, Odia, and Bangla.
Additionally, there is an option to learn in ‘Hinglish’, a blend of Hindi and English, popular among students in urban areas.
Introducing ‘Khanmigo’
Khan Academy is also experimenting with a localised iteration of ‘Khanmigo’, an AI-driven personal tutoring tool.
Moreover, Gemini will utilise Khan Academy’s well-known mastery-based learning strategy, ensuring the AI encourages comprehension of fundamental concepts instead of merely supplying quick answers.
Interactive SAT Practice with Real-Time Support
Google has introduced complimentary SAT practice tests through Gemini; students can initiate a test by entering a prompt like “I want to take a practice SAT test” in the app. This process creates a specialised interface that simulates a real exam environment, encompassing the main areas of reading, writing, and mathematics.
Customisable Study Modes
To assist students in personalising their study sessions, Gemini provides multiple customisable modes to alleviate common exam-related stress.
The ‘Timed Mode’ features a countdown timer to train students in pacing for the actual 2-hour and 14-minute exam.
For those seeking a more guided experience, the ‘Instant Feedback’ option lets users review correct responses and detailed answers immediately after each question.
A ‘Hint System’ is also available, offering gentle prompts to guide students towards the answer without revealing it outright, encouraging true problem-solving abilities.
Student Engagement and Future Enhancements
According to Google, many students engage with Gemini almost every day while studying; the aim is to ensure they practice with materials that resemble what they will encounter on the actual test day. While the current focus is on the SAT, Google has confirmed that additional standardised tests and wider academic subject resources will be introduced in due course, providing a robust, zero-cost resource for students globally.
