Gemini 3: Google’s Cutting-Edge AI Foundation Model
Gemini 3 is paving the way as Google’s latest AI foundation model, readily available through the Gemini app and AI search functionality. This release arrives just seven months after Gemini 2.5, firmly establishing Google at the forefront of AI technology advancements. The release timing is significant, coinciding with OpenAI’s recent launch of GPT 5.1 and Anthropic’s introduction of Sonnet 4.5 just two months prior, which highlights the rapid progression in the development of cutting-edge AI models.
Upcoming Enhancements with Gemini 3 Deepthink
A more sophisticated version, called Gemini 3 Deepthink, is set to launch soon for Google AI Ultra subscribers, following additional safety evaluations. This version will focus on advanced research capabilities.
Massive Advancements in Reasoning
Tulsee Doshi, Google’s head of the Gemini model product, noted the impressive reasoning capabilities of Gemini 3, stating the model exhibits an unprecedented level of depth and nuance in its responses.
Benchmark Performance
Initial benchmarking results support these assertions. Gemini 3 has achieved a score of 37.4 on the Humanity’s Last Exam benchmark, addressing high-level reasoning and broad expertise. This score surpasses the previous record held by GPT 5 Pro, which scored 31.64. Additionally, Gemini 3 has dominated LMArena, a leaderboard based on user satisfaction.
Integration and User Adoption
Google has reported that the Gemini app now boasts over 650 million monthly active users, with 13 million developers currently embedding the model into their workflows. These statistics underscore how integral Gemini has become within Google’s overarching AI ecosystem.
Introducing Antigravity: The New Coding Interface
Alongside the launch of the primary model, Google has unveiled Antigravity, an innovative coding interface powered by Gemini. This platform streamlines development for programmers by combining a chat-style prompting system with a terminal and browser view, allowing for real-time application writing, testing, and refinement.
According to DeepMind’s CTO Koray Kavukcuoglu, the agent’s capabilities include interaction across various tools such as the editor, terminal, and browser, enhancing the way developers construct their applications.
The Competitive Landscape in AI
Google’s recent advancements signal an increasing rivalry among AI leaders, each aiming to push the envelope on reasoning, coding, and agentic functionality. With Gemini 3 leading on new benchmark charts and Deepthink in the pipeline, Google is clearly determined to maintain its position at the apex of AI development.
