Google’s $15 Billion AI Data Centre in Vizag

On April 28, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate Google’s $15 billion artificial intelligence (AI) data centre in Visakhapatnam (Vizag). This venture represents one of Google’s most significant foreign direct investment (FDI) initiatives within India and is slated to unfold over the next five years.

About Google’s AI Data Centre in Vizag

Back in October 2025, Google formed a partnership with the Andhra Pradesh government to construct a 1-gigawatt (GW) AI-driven data centre campus, planning to invest approximately $15 billion over five years. This will be Google’s inaugural AI hub within the country, situated in Vizag. However, the long-term objective is to increase the data centre’s capacity to 5 GW, surpassing threefold India’s total data centre capacity as of late 2025.

Project Scope and Impacts

The venture spans across 600 acres at three locations: Rambilli, Adavivaram, and Tarluvada. The data centre aims to establish an international subsea cable landing station and advanced AI infrastructure to bolster Google Cloud and AI operations throughout India. Additionally, this AI hub is anticipated to foster high-value employment opportunities and cultivate a new “AI ecosystem” for younger generations in Andhra Pradesh.

Attendance and Partnerships

The inauguration ceremony is likely to host Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu along with prominent officials from Google. This project also involves collaborators like AdaniConnex and Airtel, who will play crucial roles in the infrastructure of Google’s AI hub and data centre campus in Vizag.

AdaniConnex will be responsible for developing the fundamental data centre infrastructure, which includes the design of a gigawatt-scale AI facility, renewable energy-linked power systems, transmission lines, and energy storage solutions to aim for a green power operation.

Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel will construct and manage the high-capacity fibre-optic network and the new international subsea cable landing station (CLS) in Vizag. They will also ensure low-latency, high-bandwidth connectivity for Google Cloud and AI initiatives throughout India.

The project is projected to reach completion by July 2028, positioning itself as Asia’s most extensive data centre cluster.
