Introducing the Huawei Pura X: A Bold New Flip Phone Redefining Mobile Style

Huawei Pura X – A New Era of Smartphone Innovation

Huawei Pura X is the latest flip smartphone launched by Huawei in China. This innovative device is significant as it is the first Huawei phone that does not operate on Android, introducing Huawei’s proprietary AI assistant, Harmony Intelligence.

No Android Compatibility

The Huawei Pura X marks a pivotal moment for the brand as it is the first device not leveraging the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Following the US ban, Huawei transitioned to its own operating system, HarmonyOS Next, which does not support Android applications. Initially unveiled in 2024 with the Mate 70 series, that device offered a choice between Android and HarmonyOS, an option that the Pura X does not provide.

Huawei Pura X Specifications

In terms of design, the Huawei Pura X resembles other flip phones available today, yet it stands apart in its unique features. When closed, the device appears to be conventional, boasting a 3.5-inch outer OLED display with a 1:1 aspect ratio and a refresh rate ranging from 1-120Hz, accompanied by a triple rear camera system. Notably, the hinge of the phone is positioned on the side rather than the top, allowing it to open in a book-like fashion.

Upon opening, users are greeted with a 6.3-inch foldable OLED screen featuring a 16:10 aspect ratio, which also supports an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz LTPO 2.0 and high-frequency PWM dimming at 1440Hz.

Due to the restriction imposed by the US ban, Huawei has been compelled to utilize its own Kirin-branded chipsets in its devices. While the specifics regarding the processor of the Pura X remain undisclosed, reports indicate that it employs the Kirin 9020 chip, introduced last year. Furthermore, Huawei has confirmed support for up to 16GB of RAM and a maximum storage capacity of 1TB.

Camera Capabilities

The Huawei Pura X captures stunning images through its triple rear-camera setup, which includes a 50MP main sensor with Optical Image Stabilisation, a 40MP ultra-wide-angle macro lens, and an 8MP telephoto lens with 3.5x zoom and OIS. For selfies, the inner display houses a 10.7MP camera.

Battery Life and Durability

This innovative smartphone is equipped with a 4720mAh silicon-carbon battery, featuring support for 66W wired fast charging and 40W wireless fast charging. Additionally, it carries an IPX8 rating, granting it water resistance capabilities.

Huawei Pura X Price and Availability

The starting price for the Huawei Pura X in China is CNY 7499 (approximately ₹89,000). Observing Huawei’s previous actions and minimal support for devices in India, it seems improbable that the Pura X will be launched in the Indian market. With the absence of Android support, using this device in India would pose significant challenges, even for those importing it.
