iPadOS 19 Redesign Set to Enhance Productivity
iPadOS 19 is anticipated to introduce a remarkable redesign later this year, aligning the iPad experience more closely with macOS. As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this new software update is set to enhance productivity, multitasking, and app window management significantly.
In Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, it has been mentioned that the focus of this year’s upgrade will be on productivity, multitasking, and app window management, aiming for the device to function similarly to a Mac. This upgrade is described as long overdue, with power users of the iPad urging Apple for increased capabilities.
While specific features are not yet disclosed, the anticipated modifications seek to tackle a persistent criticism regarding iPadOS’s ability to fully utilise the advanced hardware capabilities found in high-end iPads, particularly the iPad Pro. Many users have viewed the current software as restricting, especially in contrast to the power and versatility of macOS.
This transformation also aligns with Apple’s overarching design philosophy. Previous insights from Gurman have indicated that Apple is pursuing a more cohesive design language throughout iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, potentially incorporating visual elements from visionOS, the software that powers the Apple Vision Pro headset. Such elements may include rounder app icons, floating menus, pill-shaped toggle buttons, and smoother animations.
While specific details are still to be revealed, it is expected that Apple will unveil iPadOS 19 along with iOS 19, macOS 16, and other software updates at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), scheduled for 9 to 13 June 2025.
