Katy Perry Joins Blue Origin’s Groundbreaking Spaceflight

Katy Perry is preparing for a remarkable adventure as she becomes part of Blue Origin’s next crewed spaceflight, as revealed by the aerospace company founded by Jeff Bezos. The celebrated pop star will accompany CBS journalist Gayle King and Lauren Sánchez, who is engaged to Bezos, aboard the New Shepard rocket, with the mission set for launch this spring. This flight will represent the 11th human mission conducted by Blue Origin.

Meet the Crew of the Upcoming Space Mission

In addition to Perry, Sánchez, and King, the six-member crew will include:

Vision for an All-Female Spaceflight

This upcoming mission aligns perfectly with Sánchez’s ambition of spearheading an all-female spaceflight, a vision she first shared in 2023. At that point, she had not revealed the participants who would join her on this historic journey.

Advancements in Commercial Space Tourism

Blue Origin, Bezos’s privately funded venture into space, has progressively developed commercial space tourism services since executing its first crewed flight in 2021. Most recently, earlier this week, the company conducted a human spaceflight with a six-member crew reaching the brink of space, enjoying a fleeting moment of weightlessness before safely returning to Earth.

Notable Names in Blue Origin’s History

Since embarking on its first manned mission, Blue Origin has successfully transported 52 individuals to space, including the iconic William Shatner from Star Trek, along with Bezos himself.

Katy Perry and the Celebrity Space Trend

With her participation in this forthcoming flight, Katy Perry adds another significant name to the list of high-profile celebrities and public figures exploring beyond Earth’s atmosphere. While Perry is widely celebrated for her success in the music industry, she is now following in the footsteps of other entertainers who have journeyed into space. Blue Origin has previously hosted William Shatner, while various private space enterprises, such as SpaceX and Virgin Galactic, have launched astronauts and civilians into suborbital and orbital missions.
