Land Rover Defender Octa Makes Grand Entrance in India Priced at ₹2.59 Crore

Defender Octa: The Ultimate Off-Road Experience

Land Rover has proudly introduced the Defender Octa in India, marking it as the most powerful entry in the Defender range. The starting price is ₹2.59 crore (ex-showroom) for this flagship off-roader, which is exclusively available in the 110 (5-door) configuration. Furthermore, the first year of production offers a limited Defender Octa Edition One, retailing at ₹2.79 crore.

Design and Dimensions of the Defender Octa

The Defender Octa boasts notable design upgrades and modified dimensions compared to the standard Defender, enhancing both its aesthetic appeal and capability. The vehicle’s ride height is lifted by 28mm, achieving a total width that is now 68mm greater. It also showcases a leading water-wading capability of one metre, surpassing any other Defender by 100mm, alongside an impressive ground clearance of 323mm.

To elevate its off-road performance, the Defender Octa is designed with redesigned bumpers, improving the approach and departure angles, a broader stance, and larger air intakes for superior cooling. The rear features a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, towing hooks, and a quad-exhaust system that modifies its sound profile when the Octa mode is engaged.

Standard 20″ alloy wheels are included, with 22″ wheels available for those seeking extras. Colour selections comprise Charente Grey and Petra Copper for the typical Octa, whereas the Octa Edition One is offered in exclusive shades of Faroe Green and Carpathian Grey. Every variant comes equipped with a gloss Narvik Black contrast roof and tailgate, and an optional matte protective film for enhanced durability.

Powertrain and Performance Details

The core of the Defender Octa features a BMW-derived 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 mild-hybrid engine, which yields an impressive output of 635 PS (626bhp) and 750Nm of peak torque, potentially increasing to 800Nm via launch control. Coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a 4WD system, this SUV can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 4 seconds.

Equipped with a 6D Dynamic suspension system, the vehicle significantly minimises pitch and roll for improved stability in both on-road and off-road conditions. It also incorporates reengineered chassis and suspension parts, along with specially crafted tyres, all designed to ensure top traction and control on a variety of terrains.

A standout feature is the Octa mode, which enhances traction, braking, and acceleration on loose surfaces such as sand and gravel. This mode also upgrades the interior experience by adjusting ambient lighting, exhaust notes, gear shifts, and ABS calibration.

Interior Comfort and Features

Inside the Defender Octa, the minimalist yet practical design remains intact, featuring premium Burnt Sienna semi-aniline leather upholstery as standard. The front seating has been enhanced to offer sportier contours, providing extra support through bolstering and integrated headrests.

Key attributes include an 11.4″ touchscreen infotainment system supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 15-speaker 700W Meridian surround sound system that works seamlessly with haptic feedback seats, and three-zone automatic climate control that includes rear vents. Additional features encompass a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, hill hold assist, traction control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. A distinct wade sensing feature displays real-time water depth on the infotainment screen, ensuring safe crossings through rivers.

Market Competition

Positioned as a high-performance luxury off-roader, the Defender Octa competes against notable models such as the Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX, providing a striking balance of rugged functionality and lavish refinement.
