Meta Oakley HSTN Smart Glasses for Athletes
Meta has unveiled the Meta Oakley HSTN smart glasses, its first technology-oriented product tailored for athletes and sports fans. These exclusive smart glasses can be preordered starting July 11 for $499, with a broader collection set to launch later this summer beginning at $399.
Design and Features of Meta Oakley HSTN Smart Glasses
Based on Oakley’s HSTN design (pronounced “how-stuhn”), the glasses boast a front-facing camera that records 3K video, along with open-ear speakers and integrated microphones. Wearers can capture photos, enjoy music, and conduct hands-free calls while interacting with Meta AI using voice commands. The AI assistant is capable of answering contextual questions, capturing media, providing real-time translations, and delivering information about the surrounding environment.
Battery Life and Charging Capabilities
Meta claims that the new smart eyewear doubles the battery life of the Meta Ray-Bans, offering up to eight hours of active use and 19 hours on standby. A quick charge of 20 minutes can replenish 50 percent of the battery, while the accompanying case allows for an extra 48 hours of charge while on the go.
Frame Options and Additional Features
The Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses will come in six different frame and lens variations, including warm grey with ruby lenses and black with polarised black lenses. Some styles incorporate Oakley’s Prizm Lens technology to enhance visibility under various lighting conditions. There is also an option for prescription compatibility available at an extra cost.
Meta’s Commitment to Athletes
In a statement, Meta expressed that this marks their first offering designed specifically for athletes and supporters. The launch strengthens Meta’s ongoing collaboration with EssilorLuxottica, which owns both Oakley and Ray-Ban. According to the company’s fiscal year 2024 financial report, over two million Meta Ray-Ban glasses have been sold to date.
Availability of HSTN Smart Glasses
The HSTN smart glasses will initially launch in several countries, including the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and Italy. Additional availability is planned for India, Mexico, and the UAE later in the year.
