Netflix Interactive Titles Removal: Bandersnatch and Kimmy vs. the Reverend

Netflix is set to discontinue its last two interactive titles, Bandersnatch and Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, from its platform on May 12, 2025, according to a report from What’s on Netflix. This decision signifies the formal end of the streamer’s formerly celebrated venture into choose-your-own-adventure style storytelling.

Iconic Interactive Titles from Netflix

Netflix has presented various interactive specials over the years, with Bandersnatch standing out as the most notable. Released in 2018 as part of the Black Mirror anthology series, the interactive film allowed audiences to influence the narrative through a complex array of choices. Its numerous branching paths became a sensation on Reddit, where users hurried to discover hidden endings and secret sequences. However, despite its acclaim, the interactive format never fully established itself as a staple.

Kimmy Schmidt’s Interactive Spin

Kimmy Schmidt’s special, released in 2020 as a conclusion to the beloved sitcom, infused comedy into the interactive experience, allowing viewers to choose how the protagonist Kimmy navigated wedding chaos and confronted her adversary, the Reverend.

Shifting Strategy for Netflix

This decision aligns with Netflix’s broader strategic shift away from interactive video, focusing instead on enhancing its presence in gaming. Recent initiatives include the ongoing rollout of mobile games, experiments with cloud gaming on TVs, and a redesigned user interface aimed at better promoting gaming content.

Phasing Out of Interactive Titles

Netflix initiated the retirement of most interactive titles last year. During that period, Netflix representative Chrissy Kelleher remarked, “The technology served its purpose, but is now limiting as we focus on technological efforts in other areas.”

The removal of Bandersnatch and Kimmy vs. the Reverend signifies that there will be no active titles under Netflix’s “Interactive Specials” umbrella. Previous removals included Ranveer vs. Wild with Bear Grylls and You vs. Wild, though non-interactive versions of the latter remain available on the platform.

Fans eager to either revisit or experience the choose-your-own antics of Bandersnatch or guide Kimmy to her wedding one last time must act promptly before this content disappears permanently.
