OnePlus India chief executive Robin Liu has announced his departure as the company evaluates its global strategy, potentially leading to reductions in key markets such as India.

The company expressed gratitude towards Robin for his contributions, stating that he is moving on to explore personal interests and wishes him success in his future pursuits.

OnePlus confirmed that operations in India will continue with a focus on local strategy and business continuity.

This change occurs amidst indications that OnePlus is contemplating a reduction of operations in significant global markets, which include the US, UK, India, and specific areas in Europe. However, operations in China are anticipated to remain stable. In India, the company aims to refresh its product offerings.

It has been noted previously that OnePlus may limit its offerings in India to budget and mid-range devices, reducing emphasis on its flagship series in the region.

Robin Liu joined OnePlus in 2018, initially overseeing sales operations. He was promoted to CEO of OnePlus North America in 2022 and later returned as CEO of OnePlus India in 2024, following an internal reorganization that also included changes for Ramagopala Reddy, OnePlus VP, and Ranjeet Singh, Sales Director.

Media reports indicate that Liu is currently serving his notice, with his final day set for March 31. He has relocated back to China as he transitions out of his position at OnePlus. The company is facing significant challenges in India, where it is losing market share to competitors such as Samsung and Vivo in the premium market sector. Nevertheless, OnePlus has announced plans to introduce the mid-range Nord-series phone, the OnePlus Nord 6, in India next month. The future of its flagship number series, however, remains uncertain.
