OpenAI Unleashes Remote AI Coding Capabilities on ChatGPT for Android and iOS

Codex Integration in ChatGPT Mobile App

Codex integration is now available in the ChatGPT mobile app, allowing users to manage AI coding tasks effortlessly on their mobile devices. OpenAI indicates that users can track progress, review assignments, and handle workflows directly from their smartphones.

Currently, this feature is being released as a preview on both iOS and Android platforms, giving users remote access to their ongoing Codex projects. OpenAI emphasises that this upgrade primarily targets coding assignments that require extended timeframes. Below is a guide on how to use the AI coding tool on mobile devices.

H2>Codex Integration in ChatGPT Mobile App

OpenAI’s Codex was originally designed for desktop use, enabling users to write, debug, and manage AI-supported coding tasks while collaborating with several AI agents simultaneously. With the introduction of Codex in the ChatGPT mobile app, users can now stay connected to their ongoing projects right from their smartphones.

The app synchronises with the attached development environment, showcasing ongoing threads, reviewing outputs, authorising commands, switching models, or starting new requests directly from mobile devices.

The company has clarified that all actual coding tasks will still be conducted on laptops, desktops, or cloud servers. Consequently, files, logins, permissions, and development settings will be securely kept on those machines and will not transfer to mobile devices. The app serves merely as a remote interface that receives real-time updates including screenshots, terminal activities, code modifications, and test outputs.

H2>What Can Users Do with Codex on Mobile Devices?

OpenAI has provided various examples of how users can effectively utilise Codex through the ChatGPT mobile application. Codex can access project files within the coding environment, identify issues, replicate bugs in a web browser, run tests, and even begin automated attempts to resolve problems. However, it can request additional instructions or permissions before executing specific actions.

Codex can summarise the latest developments, point out critical unresolved issues, and create a succinct briefing from platforms such as Slack, emails, documents, and web tools. The AI also has the capability to update the summary in real-time as new information becomes available.

The preview version of Codex is being rolled out to ChatGPT app users on all plans, including Free and Go, available on both Android and iOS.
